About Avedro

History

More than two decades ago, as the founder and CEO of Summit Technology, David Muller, PhD, pioneered the use of excimer lasers for performing today’s laser vision correction surgery. Summit Technology became the worldwide leader in development and sales of excimer lasers for refractive correction and was acquired by Alcon for $948 million.

In 2007 Dr. Muller founded Avedro to continue developing advanced technologies for ophthalmic applications and many of Avedro’s senior management team that worked with him to introduce excimer lasers are now working with him to redefine refractive correction and corneal cross-linking.

Innovation

Vedera® System – In April 2010, Avedro received CE Mark of its Vedera System to perform Keraflex®, Avedro’s patented and proprietary, non-refractive correction procedure that gently reshapes and flattens the cornea. Keraflex is a procedure to preserve the cornea’s biomechanical integrity.

KXL™ System – In November 2010, Avedro received CE Mark and began commercialization of its KXL System for accelerated cross-linking. When used to treat keratoconus, the KXL System’s speed and accuracy reduce procedure times and provide superior outcomes. The speed and accuracy of the KXL System has also allowed Avedro to expand the use of cross-linking into Lasik with its Lasik Xtra™ procedure. Lasik Xtra is seamlessly integrated into a standard Lasik procedure to restore the biomechanical integrity of the cornea following flap creation and excimer ablation.

Excellence

The Vedera System for performing Keraflex received the prestigious Gold level Medical Design Excellence Award for 2011, highlighting the excellence of Avedro’s team of scientists, engineers, software programmers and manufacturing technicians.
