David Muller, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
Recognizing the potential of microwave technology to gently reshape the cornea, Dr. David Muller, a proven serial entrepreneur, founded Avedro in 2007. Two decades earlier as the founder, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Summit Technology, he led the team that brought the first FDA-approved excimer laser to market and laser vision correction eye surgery to tens of millions of people around the world. David holds a doctorate in physical chemistry from Cornell University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Steve Blinn
Chief Commercial Officer
Steve brings more than 30 years of experience in corporate management and worldwide sales and marketing management for medical device companies from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. As the executive vice president of Summit Technology, Inc. he served on the leadership team that pioneered the development and worldwide marketing of excimer laser systems for performing laser vision correction eye surgery.
Rhonda Bracey
Chief Financial Officer
Rhonda has 22 years of finance experience in the life science industry in both start-up and established companies. Before joining Avedro, Rhonda was vice president of finance and administration at NDO Surgical. Prior to that, she was financial manager at CR Bard and an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Marc Friedman, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer
Marc has over 20 years of experience in the areas of ophthalmology, phototherapy and biotechnology and began his career at Summit Technology. He earned his doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University and his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Optical Engineering from the University of Rochester.
Ronald Scharf, PhD.
Chief Technology Officer
Ron has over 15 years of experience in ophthalmic device R&D management. Before joining Avedro, he was Associate Technical Director, Product Development at Alcon Research, Ltd. Prior to that, he was Director of Presbyopia Research at AMO, Inc. and Head of Research and Development at 20/10 Perfect Vision GmbH. Ron earned his doctorate and master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Erlangen and holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley–Walter A. Haas School of Business.
Robert Broderick
Vice President, Global Development
Robert has over 15 years experience in medical device design, development and product management. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.
Rahul Chaturvedi
Vice President, Clinical Affairs
Rahul has a proven track record in ophthalmic product and business development. Over the last 5 years, Rahul has executed clinical trials that have resulted in 4 FDA drug approvals to date. Prior to joining Avedro, Rahul was Associate Director of Business Development at Cetero Research and Senior Manager of International Operations at Ora, Inc.
John Frantzis
Vice President, Global Sales
John has more than 20 years of experience in global sales management for medical device companies in the fields of ophthalmology and general surgery. As the vice president of global sales for Summit Technology, Inc. he opened 35 international markets for excimer laser system sales for performing laser vision correction eye surgery.
Kristen Gleason
Vice President, Marketing
Kristen has more than 10 years of experience in medical device marketing, sales, and strategic planning. Prior to joining Avedro, Kristen was Director of Product Marketing at OptiMedica, and holds an MBA from University of Southern California.
Royce Kahler
Vice President, Operations
Royce has over 37 years of senior management experience in operations, with Vice President roles at Medtronic, Innovasive, Johnson and Johnson, and Scandius. He was most recently VP of Operations at Covidien.
Pamela Nelson
Vice President, Regulatory Affairs
Pamela brings over 15 years of experience in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Regulatory Affairs. She has extensive experience with the submission and approval of drugs. Prior to joining Avedro, Pamela held various regulatory positions at Genzyme, Alkermes, Altus and Alnara Pharmaceuticals.
Evan Sherr
Vice President, Special Projects
Evan’s medical industry experience spans a variety of areas including product management, research and development, clinical trials management and regulatory affairs. Most recently, he was vice president of Product Management at Neuroptix Corporation. Prior to that, he served as Executive Director, Clinical Research, Surgical Business at Cynosure, Inc. He began his career at Summit Technology as a staff scientist.
Jon Voss
Vice President, Quality Assurance
Jon has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years, most recently as VP of Quality for Lonza’s generics business and prior to that as VP of Quality and New Region Development for Genzyme Corporation. Jon graduated from Boston University in 1989 receiving his Masters in Biomedical Engineering from the College of Engineering. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physiology degree in 1983 from the University of California at Davis.
