David Muller, PhD

President and Chief Executive Officer

Recognizing the potential of microwave technology to gently reshape the cornea, Dr. David Muller, a proven serial entrepreneur, founded Avedro in 2007. Two decades earlier as the founder, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Summit Technology, he led the team that brought the first FDA-approved excimer laser to market and laser vision correction eye surgery to tens of millions of people around the world. David holds a doctorate in physical chemistry from Cornell University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Steve Blinn

Chief Commercial Officer

Steve brings more than 30 years of experience in corporate management and worldwide sales and marketing management for medical device companies from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. As the executive vice president of Summit Technology, Inc. he served on the leadership team that pioneered the development and worldwide marketing of excimer laser systems for performing laser vision correction eye surgery.

Rhonda Bracey

Chief Financial Officer

Rhonda has 22 years of finance experience in the life science industry in both start-up and established companies. Before joining Avedro, Rhonda was vice president of finance and administration at NDO Surgical. Prior to that, she was financial manager at CR Bard and an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Marc Friedman, PhD

Chief Scientific Officer

Marc has over 20 years of experience in the areas of ophthalmology, phototherapy and biotechnology and began his career at Summit Technology. He earned his doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University and his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Optical Engineering from the University of Rochester.

James J. Porcaro

Chief Operating Officer

Jim has more than 20 years of experience in the medical device industry. Before joining Avedro, Jim was Vice President of Strategic Development at Covidien for the Medical Supplies segment. Prior to that he was Vice President for the Medical Components Business at Greatbatch and Director of Corporate Engineering at Covidien. From 1991 to 1997, he was employed by Bausch & Lomb and CR Bard and held a series of engineering and operations management positions of increasing responsibility. Jim earned a Master’s Degree in Management Science from Lesley College, a Master’s Degree in Packaging Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Plastics Engineering from the University of Lowell.

Robert Broderick

Vice President, Global Development

Robert has a wide range of experience in medical device design and development, operations and product management. Prior to Avedro, he held various positions at Candela Corporation, Applied Biosystems and Summit Technology.  He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.

Rahul Chaturvedi

Vice President, Clinical Affairs

Rahul has a proven track record in ophthalmic product and business development. Over the last 5 years, Rahul has executed clinical trials that have resulted in 4 FDA drug approvals to date. Prior to joining Avedro, Rahul was Associate Director of Business Development at Cetero Research and Senior Manager of International Operations at Ora, Inc.

John Frantzis

Vice President, Global Sales

John has more than 20 years of experience in global sales management for medical device companies in the fields of ophthalmology and general surgery. As the vice president of global sales for Summit Technology, Inc. he opened 35 international markets for excimer laser system sales for performing laser vision correction eye surgery.

Dave Iannetta

Vice President, Marketing

Dave has a strong background in eye care with experience in global product marketing. At Optos, he was responsible for launching novel retinal imaging devices, with thousands installed globally. Prior to Optos, Dave worked in surgical device marketing with LeMaitre Vascular. He has a strong skill set in marketing, business development and finance, and a wide range of experience from chemical engineering to medical devices, equity research and venture capital. Dave earned his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University.

Grace Lytle

Vice President, Professional Education

Grace brings her clinical and teaching experience in the areas of keratoconus and refractive surgery management to Avedro. Grace earned her master’s degree in vision science and her doctorate in optometry from the New England College of Optometry, where she graduated as valedictorian of her doctoral class. After completion of residency training in Cornea at the New England Eye Institute in Boston, Grace went on to provide eye care in private practice and to instruct in the contact lens course at NECO.

Pamela Nelson

Vice President, Regulatory Affairs

Pamela brings over 15 years of experience in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Regulatory Affairs. She has extensive experience with the submission and approval of drugs. Prior to joining Avedro, Pamela held various regulatory positions at Genzyme, Alkermes, Altus and Alnara Pharmaceuticals.

Chris Petersen

Vice President, Engineering

Chris has 20 years of experience within the biomedical optics and medical device field. Prior to joining Avedro, Chris held roles including Vice President of R&D for LightLab Imaging/St Jude Medical, developing intravascular Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and Vice President of Engineering and Advanced Development for Zeiss Meditec, developing several ophthalmic instruments, including corneal topographers, visual field analyzers and the first commercial ophthalmic OCT platform. Chris holds a doctorate in Optoelectronics from Princeton University and a degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.

Evan Sherr

Vice President, Advanced Products Development

Evan’s medical industry experience spans a variety of areas including product management, research and development, clinical trials management and regulatory affairs. Most recently, he was vice president of Product Management at Neuroptix Corporation. Prior to that, he served as Executive Director, Clinical Research, Surgical Business at Cynosure, Inc. He began his career at Summit Technology as a staff scientist.
